Announcing Event Notifications
The 4% fee all of our customers pay when making a transaction is invested back in full into your client area. This fee has allowed us to produce our own in-house control panel for OpenStack Servers & Dedicated Servers, It’s allowed for Two-Factor Authentication, SMS Alerts and of course last year the introduction of our Blacklist & Heartbeat tracking service which is free for all users who have a VPS or Dedicated solution. Now, we are announcing the launch of Event Notifications.
Event Notifications means when a certain activity is detected we will notify you. We are adding more events to the program but to start we will contact you if we detect any of the following;
DDoS Attack Notifications
If your service ever comes under a DDoS attack then we will detect that and now we will send you an email to say we have detected this and we are working to mitigate the attack. Once the attack has been foiled we will send you an email to notify you the attack is over.
Spam Notifications
Spam being sent from a server could indicate the server has been compromised in some way. This could be a compromised account or a compromised root account. When we detect spam we automatically block port 25 on that IP. Now, we will also send you an email to say we have detected spam and the port is now blocked. This works great in conjunction with the Blacklist tracking service.
This new feature works on all VPS and Dedicated services plus any Shared Hosting or Reseller Hosting account that has a dedicated IP. It does not provide notifications to users who use the shared server IP on our shared NVMe service. Customers should already have been receiving these notifications for the past week.
What do you do if you get a DDoS notification?
Nothing! When we detect bad traffic flowing to your server we immediately route all of the data going to your server through a filtering program. This program null-routes the bad traffic so it never reaches your server and your service remains online.
What about a port 25 block?
This does require some input. The vast majority of our customers do not spam. As of writing this article 0.7% of the IPs we run are blocked. That’s a very low number but issues can happen. Rouge WordPress plugins are a huge cause for concern. A badly written plugin can allow access to your account for a user to upload spam mailing scripts which churn out thousands of emails every minute. We protect against this in two ways. 1) We only allow a certain number of emails to be sent each hour and 2) We will block port 25 if you reach this number. We have covered this topic in great details at the links below;
