ISPConfig has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years. Since cPanel increased the price of licenses more and more people are looking for alternatives cPanel and WHM. ISPConfig is one of those alternatives that has done well out of the cPanel price increase. Installing ISPConfig Initial Setup
OS – Debian 11 LTS
On our network, our instances already come with networking preconfigured. This means you should already have everything required to start the installation. But, before you do this, ensure your hostname resolves. You should have A and AAAA records in place pointing to your instances IPv4 and IPv6. You should be able to ping your hostname and get a response.
Install ISPConfig
The ISPConfig installer will install everything required to run the software, automatically. But you can also specify some advanced commands like FTP passive ports. In this guide, we’re just going through the basic installation. From the console in your instance as the root user, Issue the below command.
wget -O - https://get.ispconfig.org | sh -s
Once ISPConfig is installed, you will see your MySQL password and the password for the root user. Make a note of these. If you ever lose them, you can reset ISPConfig admin password. Next, it’s time to log in.
Login To ISPConfig
The URL to log in is your hostname followed by 8080. Navigate to https://you.server.com:8080. Use the username Admin and the password from the console. Assuming all went well, you are now in your new ISPConfig server.

If after installing ISPConfig you see a “possible attack detected. This action has been logged” error. You will need to tweak some settings. Inside the /usr/local/ispconfig/security/security_settings.ini. If you are using the network firewall there should be no need to use this feature.
nano /usr/local/ispconfig/security/security_settings.ini
