Virtuozzo VPS servers – Using The Remote HTML5 Console
Customers who have a VPS server with First2Host have the advantage of using remote VNC consoles to access servers. For KVM VPS servers we offer KVM/IP using a Java VNC. For Virtuozzo VPS servers we offer an HTML5 console and the ability to login to your VPS server via the host node.
First2Host offers two ways to connect to your VNC consoles. Here we will be using the HTML5 console which is available from the client area and later on, we will details how to login using putty via the host node.
First Things First – Security
Your First2Host account should be secure. Anyone will access to your client account can manage your VPS server. This means a user could reinstall your server from your client account so you need to ensure you have the correct security practices in place should your client account password ever become compromised.
Activate Two-Factor Authentication
We offer two-factor authentication which adds another layer of security to your account. This is a free service and can be activated by logging into your client account, on the right click your name then security settings. All users should have this enabled. You can navigate to https://www.first2host.co.uk/clientarea.php?action=security for ease.
Access The HTML5 Console
To use the HTML5 console just log in to your account, select “Services” then “My Services” or just use the https://www.first2host.co.uk/clientarea.php?action=services link and log in. Click the Virtuozzo VPS Server you wish to access remotely. Once the control panel has loaded click at the bottom of the page click HTML5 Serial Console
A popup will appear and you will be logged into your server. No password is required as the HTML5 console connects to your server from the host node. If the login fails the first time around just close the popup and click the button again.
Connect to Your Virtuozzo VPS server Via The Host node and Putty
You could also use Putty to connect to your server even if it appears offline. This way you need to login to the VPS control panel at https://vps.first2host.co.uk select your server and then click “Serial Console”
Once the page loads you will see at the top of the page an SSH command. The command will look like this
ssh [email protected] -p 3004
If you have an active SSH console open just run the above command and enter the password displayed on the page in the VPS control panel. You can also use the information listed on this page to connect via Putty. We advise all users to use the HTML5 console.
The HTML5 console is a great way to access your Virtuozzo VPS server even when it appears offline. For example, you made a mistake in the networking and the server does not connect to the outside world. By using the HTML5 console you can revert the changes. You could also update your root password this way should you forget it.
