PHP 5.6 and PHP 7.0 Is Being Retired

On the 28th February 2019, First2Hst will be retiring PHP 5.6 and PHP 7.0. These versions of PHP have now become a security threat because no security fixes will be released for these versions of PHP. Originally we planned to retire these versions on 31st December 2018 but we have allowed extra time for our users to ensure their websites are ready for PHP 7.2.

What Will Happen On 28th February?

We will be removing these versions of PHP from the service and any website still using these versions will be switched to PHP 7.2. Before the 28th February, you need to ensure that your website is fully updated or it could stop working.

How Do I See If I Am Ready For PHP 7.2?

You can switch the PHP version that you currently use from cPanel. Log n and in the search bar type PHP then select the PHP Version Manager icon. Select the checkbox next to your domain name and on the right switch the PHP version to PHP 7.2. If your website still functions without error then you are ready for PHP 7.2 and nothing else is required.

What If My Website Displays An Error?

You simply need to update your websites core files to the latest versions including any plugins or additional software. Any reputable author would have released software for version 7.2 by now.

It’s vital that you check your website is ready and perform any updates before the 28th February. Please ensure you are ready!
