PHP Updates – PHP 5.6 & PHP 7.0 Is Being Retired From Our Network

In six months time (December 2018) PHP 5.6 and PHP 7.0 will no longer receive security updates. This will make PHP 5.6 and PHP 7.0 a security risk. First2Host will be retiring both versions from the network. This will leave just PHP 7.1 and PHP 7.2 active.

Shared Hosting and Reseller customers need to ensure all sites are updated to the latest versions. This includes any plugins you use on software like WordPress.

The default version of PHP is already PHP 7.0. The default system value will be changed to PHP 7.2 network-wide. PHP 5.6 and PHP 7.0 will no longer be available to use and will be removed from the network on the 1st December 2018. Any sites using these versions of PHP will be updated to use PHP 7.2. If users have not updated sites in time your sites may stop working.

How can you tell if you are ready for PHP 7.2?

You can see if you are ready for PHP 7.2 by using the MultiPHP Manager in cPanel. Just log in and search for “MultiPHP” in the search bar then, click the icon. Just change your PHP value to PHP 7.2 and click save. Then, visit your website and ensure all is working.

What to do if your site stops working

If you receive Internal Server Errors or similar errors this means the software on your site is not yet ready for PHP 7.2 and you will need to update to the latest versions of your software. Once you have done this your sites will resolve fine using this version of PHP.

What if your software does not have support for PHP 7.2?

If your software is not yet compatible with PHP 7.2 and the author of your software has not released any updates it’s time to ask the author for PHP updates or move to a different piece of software. With only six months to go any reputable author should have released PHP 7.2 updates.

This only affects Web Hosting and Reseller customers. Users on VPS Servers and Dedicated servers need to make their own arrangements to update your PHP versions. If your account is on one of the below servers you need not do anything but update your software.
