How to refresh expired cPanel license using ssh
If you’re late paying your license invoice for cPanel it’s possible the license will be suspended. In a cPanel server, this means that you won’t be able to login to web host manager or webmail. You may also not be able to connect via FTP or other services like HTTP. Before using your services again you will need to manually refresh the expired cPanel license using an ssh console. You can only do this as the root user or a user with root privileges on the system in question.
With the introduction of account-based licensing by cPanel in September of 2019. When you hit your account limit in WHM. The license will also be suspended and you will need to upgrade your cPanel license before you can access the server again. If this happens you will also need to refresh the cPanel license to regain access to cPanel and WHM.
How To Activate cPanel License
As the root user login to the cPanel server with the expired cPanel license and run the below command. Once run you will receive a confirmation message in the console. This will confirm or deny if the refresh was successful.
/usr/local/cpanel/cpkeycltIf you are upgrading your license to the next tier to support more accounts then first, login to your First2Host client area and select your cPanel license. Next, click the “Upgrade/Downgrade” link to the left.
Here you are presented with the upgrade and downgrade options. Select the license you want to upgrade and the number of accounts you need. Once your payment is received we will modify your license. You should run the /usr/local/cpanel/cpkeyclt command to complete the license upgrade before adding new accounts.
